Spectroscopy

To accommodate all of your spectroscopic analysis, BCM has a comprehensive spectroscopy suite. We provide innovative testing services from development to routine analysis. This is to aid support with pharmacopeia general chapters, monographs, ICH, MHRA and FDA requirements. BCM have extensive experience in the spectroscopic requirements for a variety of product types including raw materials, pharmaceutical and cosmetic products.

Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS)

Our ICP-MS provides accurate and reproducible elemental analysis down to ppt levels. Ideal for heavy metal analysis, elemental limit tests and assay of very low-level elemental components. Combined with the use of our Microwave Digester, BCM are able to test a variety of sample forms for elemental analysis. For more information see our Elemental Impurities page.

Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES)

ICP-OES is a technique that ensures accurate and reproducible elemental analysis down to ppb levels. This technology is ideal for the assay of elemental components. As well as routine limit tests and elemental screening on a variety of products, excipients and API’s.

A traditional assay technique still used within BCM primarily for the assay of dye’s in finished products. BCM also have experience in using the UV-VIS technique as an identification test and basic sunscreen property tests using E1%.

Mainly used for the identification of raw materials and API’s. BCM also use the FTIR technique for finished and intermediate product, packaging components and for investigational purposes.

NIR is a pivotal, time efficient technique for identification of raw materials. The technique is particularly useful for differentiating between compounds with similar FTIR spectra.

XRD is an analytical technique for the analysis of powder and solid raw materials. APIs or finished products, including polymorph, crystal structure and identification testing.

XRF is a useful technique for elemental identification and quantification. Using minimal sample preparation, ideal for elemental screening and silicon residual analysis.

Atomic Absorption Flame Spectrometry (AAFS)

In Addition to Elemental Analysis we offer:

Ultraviolet - Visible Spectrometry (UV-VIS)
Fourier Transform Infra-Red Spectrometry (FTIR)
Near Infra-Red Spectrometry (NIR)
X-Ray Powder Diffraction (XRD or XRPD)
Energy Dispersive X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF)

AAFS is an ideal technique for multi or single element assay, particularly useful for assay of potassium and sodium. Other elements are available for analysis via prescribed pharmacopeia monographs.
